What is an Occupational Certificate?
An Occupational Certificate is a nationally recognised qualification developed by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).
It equips you with:
- Knowledge (Theory) – the concepts and principles of your chosen occupation.
- Practical Skills – hands-on training in a simulated (workshop/kitchen) or controlled environment at the College.
- Workplace Experience – real-life training with an approved workplace employer.

✅ National Recognition – the qualifcation is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Duration and Entry Requirements:
Credit-bearing certificates that range from 1-4 years in duration. Consists of Engineering and Utilities programmes which prepare students for a specific trade where a demand for skilled workers is needed.
- Entry Requirements vary depending on the qualification.
- All Occupational Qualifications are credit-bearing (1 credit = 10 learning hours). Hours must be accumulated over the prescribed duration of the training programme at the approved college and workplace.
- At the end of your programme, you’ll complete the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA).
- This national exam ensures every graduate meets the same quality and competency standards.
