Description

This foundational programme prepares students for further study at a TVET College. Aimed at school leavers with Grade 9 who did not meet entry criteria for a specific course in NC(V) L2.

NC(V) programmes integrate a broad range of knowledge and practical skills within specific industry fields. The National Certificate (Vocational) offers learners a vocational alternative to an academic Grade 10-12.

Engineering studies encompass a National Certificate N4-N6 in the chosen field of Engineering studies: Mechanical, Civil or Electrical.

NATED/Report 191 programmes consist of 18 months' theoretical studies that comprises of N4, N5 and N6 certificates. After completing the N6 certificate students are required to provide proof (to the Department of Higher Education and Training) of 18 months' work experience in the relevant industry, in order to qualify for the National N Diploma is issued by the Department of Higher Education and Training if all requirements are met.

Higher Certificate study programmes are predominantly vocational. This means that the course material is industry-orientated and skills application-based.

Consists of Engineering and Utilities Programmes which prepare students for a specific trade where a demand for skilled workers is needed.

Duration

One year, full-time.

The NC(V) is a three-year, full-time qualification with a certificate at Exit Level 4.

The programme runs for a trimester (three-month period)/10 weeks per
N certificate.

It takes a minimum of three years to qualify for a
National N Diploma.

One year, full-time. These courses are done in collaboration with CPUT (Cape University of Technology) or a QCTO qualification in collaboration with a SETA.

1-4 years depending on the qualification.

Qualification

National Certificate Vocational (NCV L4 is equivalent to Senior Certificate/Matric).

You will be able to take up a position as an apprentice or learner technician to gain the industrial experience required to be able to take a trade test in your chosen trade.

National N Diploma. You will also be able to articulate to Higher Education in your chosen field.

Certificate: NQF Level 5.

Admission

Minimum Grade 9 Certificate.

Minimum entrance requirement: Grade 9 or NQF Level 1 equivalent.

Minimum entrance requirement: Technical Matric with Mathematics, Science and Engineering. Graphics and design at 40% or more. Matric/National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Mathematics and Physical Science at 40% or more. NCV Level 4 in mechanical trade

Minimum entrance requirement: Senior Certificate (Grade 12), or National Senior Certificate (NSC) Grade 12, or National Certificate (Vocational)
NC(V) Level 4.

Minimum entrance requirement: Grade 12 Certificate with a minimum of 30% English, based on the University points system.

Entry requirements vary depending on Occupational Requirements.
