HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR A TRADE TEST?

  • SECTION 26 candidates: For registered, indentured apprentices.
  • SECTION 26(D) candidates: For candidates who are non-contracted, but who have worked in industry for a number of years, and have attained trade-related experience.
Career Opportunities

EVALUATIONS:
ARTISAN RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (ARPL)

If you’ve been employed in the industry in trade-related work for at least four to five years, and are not sure of your competency level, you can attend a two-day practical evaluation at Westlake Campus. This will provide you with a clear indication of any gap training that you may need before applying for a qualifying trade test at the relevant SETA.

There are nine ARPL toolkits (pre-trade test applications) which have been approved by the DHET for the following trades.

  • Boilermaker
  • Welder
  • Fitter
  • Automotive Body Repairer
  • Spray-painter
  • Fitter & Turner
  • Electrical
  • Shipbuilder
  • Rigger

ARPL applications are completed at Decentralised Trade Testing Centres.

Top-Up Training

If you have met all the criteria at the relevant SETA to undergo a qualifying Trade Test, we also offer various trade-related “top-up” programmes. The relevant Trade Test can be taken at your convenience at the Westlake Campus.

Level Testing

All Level Testing for Automotive Body Repairer (Panel Beater), and Spray-painter can be done at the Westlake Campus as well.

Student Residence

The Campus offers a fully serviced student residence which includes meals, laundry, room cleaning and student recreation facilities for registered Westlake Campus students in Occupational Programmes, who reside more than 40km from the Westlake Campus.
