For Nomlungisi Dana, enrolling at False Bay TVET College’s Fish Hoek Campus was about more than just earning a qualification; it was about aligning education with a career in public service. Working full-time in the public sector, Nomlungisi chose Public Management to deepen her understanding of governance, leadership, and ethical conduct.
Starting her studies in 2020 brought unexpected challenges when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted classes. But with strong communication from lecturers, cooperation among students, and the motivation to persevere, she adapted and pushed forward. The support of determined classmates and knowledgeable lecturers made the experience a remarkable one.
Her time at False Bay TVET College has enhanced her professional skills, from interpersonal communication and emotional intelligence to balancing accountability with responsibility. These have enriched her role in the public sector and are shaping her ambitions for the future.
Nomlungisi’s career began in the SA Navy as a non-commissioned officer, but her desire for a role where her voice could be heard led her into public service. Now, while completing her Bachelor of Public Administration, she aspires to lecture in public administration or governance and ultimately serve as a credible ambassador for South Africa.
Her advice to others is simple yet profound: “See life beyond the walls of the lecture halls. Never let circumstances dim your light.”
Nomlungisi’s journey shows that determination, lifelong learning, and purpose can pave the way for meaningful impact in service to the nation.
