How Education Transformed Lucille Beukes’ Career Path

Lucille’s journey is a powerful example of resilience, determination, and the transformative power of education. She extends her heartfelt gratitude to God and to her supportive mother, a fellow single parent who consistently encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Most importantly, her son, despite his young age, has been her greatest source of motivation and the quiet force behind her determination to never give up.

As a single parent balancing work and family responsibilities, Lucille chose to study at False Bay TVET College with both purpose and practicality in mind. The College’s convenient location and flexible learning options made it possible for her to manage her responsibilities while investing in her future. She enrolled in Business Management to strengthen her existing work experience, gain a comprehensive understanding of business operations, and prepare herself for long-term growth in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments.

While her academic journey came with challenges, particularly in balancing changing class schedules with childcare responsibilities, Lucille describes her experience as positive and rewarding. Through open communication with lecturers and effective use of online learning platforms, she was able to adapt and succeed. The support she received from lecturers, especially during the COVID-19 period, played a critical role in keeping her focused and motivated. Her nomination as a class representative for two consecutive years further developed her leadership abilities, while student-led study groups fostered a strong sense of collaboration and peer support.

One of the most impactful aspects of her studies was completing the Personal Development Plan (PDP) in her final year, which helped shape her personal and professional direction. After graduating with distinction, Lucille continued her career in the NPO sector, initiating income-generating recycling projects before transitioning into the corporate world. Starting in entry-level roles, she progressed to become a Key Accounts Manager, reporting directly to company directors.

Driven by perseverance, continuous learning, and a passion for people, Lucille now gives back by mentoring others. Her story reminds us that with commitment, support, and clear goals, success is possible despite life’s challenges.
