Love Lucy: Hospitality Students Dream

Luzahn Claassen joined False Bay TVET College in 2006 to obtain a National Certificate (Vocational) in Tourism and added Professional Cookery in 2008.

In 2009, she accepted a scholarship through a College  Partnership to participate in an exchange programme in the USA and attended Highline Community College in Seattle.

In 2013, after working as a restaurant hostess at the Radisson Blue Hotel Group, she relocated to Palm Beach in Florida, USA, for a contract employment opportunity.

She returned to South Africa, settled in Jeffreys Bay and, after a stint in a sales and marketing job, decided to start her own business.
She now owns and runs the Love Lucy Catering Company, which offers a full event package providing catering, décor and entertainment.

“It’s really hard work, long hours and you need to enjoy being active if you want to consider a career in hospitality,” says Luzahn.

Grateful for her journey and experiences, she says that she could not have got this far without the help of her family and the lecturers who supported her.
