Thukela Sean Maqungo Maduna’s journey is a true reflection of passion, perseverance, and purpose. A proud graduate of False Bay TVET College, Khayelitsha Campus, Thukela completed the Skills Programme in Assistant Chef, a course that ignited his love for the culinary world.
Growing up in a household full of girls, Thukela often found himself responsible for preparing meals for his family. What started as a necessity soon grew into a genuine passion for cooking. Inspired by False Bay TVET College’s reputation for opening doors and creating opportunities for young South Africans, Thukela decided to formalize his skills and turn his natural talent into a professional career.
His journey, however, was not without challenges. Financial difficulties often made his studies tough, but Thukela remained determined and focused on his goals. One of his most memorable experiences as a student was stepping into a professional kitchen for the first time — a moment that made his dream feel real.
After graduating, Thukela began his career as a chef at CTICC, where he gained invaluable experience and enjoyed being part of a dynamic team. He credits his education at False Bay TVET College for shaping his discipline, resilience, and strength — qualities that have been key to his success.
Throughout his career, Thukela embraced change and growth, even relocating across the Western Cape in search of better opportunities. His journey continues to inspire others to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
To current students, Thukela’s advice is clear: “Dedication, discipline, and hard work will help you achieve your goals. Stay focused and never give up on your dreams.”
Note: The Skills Programme, Assistant Chef, is no longer offered at the Khayelitsha Campus. All hospitality and related qualifications are offered at the Muizenberg Campus.
