False Bay TVET College and Cummins AME Inspire Future Talent Through “Classroom to Career” Leadership Engagement

On 30 September 2026, False Bay TVET College’s Khayelitsha Campus hosted a unique leadership engagement in partnership with Cummins Africa & Middle East (AME), bringing together approximately 60 Technical Education for Communities (TEC) students and more than 20 regional and global industry leaders for an inspiring “Classroom to Career” experience.

The event was designed to bridge the gap between education and the world of work by creating meaningful opportunities for students to connect directly with experienced professionals. Through a series of interactive career development stations, students gained valuable workplace insights, explored career pathways, and built confidence in pursuing their future aspirations.

The six themed leadership stations focused on:
Confidence and Resilience
Career Journey and Goal Setting
Marketing Yourself
Workplace Success Skills
Personal Leadership
My Future Self

Moving beyond a traditional presentation format, students participated in small-group discussions where industry leaders shared their personal career journeys, lessons learned, challenges overcome, and practical advice for succeeding in the workplace.

The event also celebrated outstanding TEC students and recognised dedicated lecturers whose commitment and support have contributed significantly to student success and the strengthening of industry-college partnerships.

As part of the TEC programme’s focus on holistic student development, learners successfully completed several important safety and workplace readiness interventions between 28 September and 6 October 2026, including:

Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) Training
SHE Representative Training
First Aid Training

These programmes equip students with critical safety awareness, risk management knowledge, and emergency response skills that are highly valued across modern industries and workplaces.

The engagement highlighted the continued impact of the Technical Education for Communities (TEC) programme, a collaborative initiative aimed at creating pathways to employment for underserved youth through a combination of technical training, workplace exposure, soft skills development, and industry mentorship.

The day concluded with networking opportunities and reflections from both students and leaders, reinforcing the shared commitment of False Bay TVET College and Cummins AME to developing future-ready graduates equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to thrive in meaningful careers.

“The Classroom to Career experience demonstrated the power of education and industry working together to inspire, prepare, and empower the next generation of technical talent. By connecting students directly with leaders, we are not only building skills, but also expanding possibilities for their future.”

This collaboration reflects the ongoing commitment of both organisations to empowering young people through education, mentorship, and real-world learning opportunities that support long-term employability and career success.
