We’re Building the Future: Mitchells Plain Campus Construction Update
At False Bay TVET College, we’re excited to share a major milestone in our journey to expand access to quality education — our new Mitchells Plain Campus is taking shape.
Since the official site handover in August 2024, construction has progressed steadily. We’ve moved through site establishment, earthworks, and foundation excavations, and are now well into structural development. If you’ve travelled along Spine Road in Bayview recently, you’ve likely seen the scale of this exciting development coming to life.
We remain on track to open the campus in the final quarter of 2026, in time to welcome students for the 2027 academic year.

A Campus Designed for Opportunity
This new campus represents more than just infrastructure — it’s our commitment to creating real opportunities for the Mitchells Plain community and beyond.
Once complete, the campus will:
- Accommodate up to 3,000 students
- Offer programmes across five faculties: Engineering, Business, Safety in Society, Design & IT, and Hair & Cosmetology
- Provide modern classrooms, specialised workshops, and simulation environments
- Introduce new qualifications aligned with industry demand
We are also working towards accreditation with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations to expand our offering in areas such as Cosmetology and Creative Design.
Built With Community in Mind
From the outset, this project has prioritised local impact. More than 30% of suppliers involved in construction are from the surrounding community — ensuring that the development contributes directly to local economic growth.
The campus itself has been designed as a shared space, featuring:
- A multipurpose hall and auditorium for community use
- Open, welcoming spaces that support student engagement
- Infrastructure that enables continued operation during water or electricity disruptions

Preparing Students for the Future
Our programme offering will reflect both traditional trades and emerging industries. Students will have access to training in fields such as:
- Engineering trades (including Bricklaying, Carpentry, and Plumbing)
- Digital and IT fields like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Administration, and Cybersecurity
- Business, transport, and logistics programmes
- Hair, beauty, and wellness qualifications
As our Acting Principal, Charlene Matthews, explains:
“This campus is about expanding access while ensuring our programmes remain relevant and responsive to industry needs. We are focused on equipping our students with practical, in-demand skills.”
Our Mitchells Plain Campus Manager, Souchan Gasant-Jackson, adds:
“This development builds on our long-standing commitment to bringing education closer to our communities. It will continue to serve as a space of opportunity, support, and growth.”
What Happens Next?
Construction continues with roofing and landscaping as the next major milestones. At the same time, we are preparing for accreditation processes and programme rollout.
Until the new campus is complete, our Mitchells Plain operations will continue at Cedar High School in Rocklands.
