False Bay TVET College Electrical Engineering student, Branden Macmaster and his mother, Ms Bianca Macmaster triumph a singing competition.
Wining the inaugural season of Stand-Up South Africa’s aired on SABC2, the duo walked away with grand prize money of R100 000.00.
The show was hosted by media personality Dineo Langa, and the judges were Ms Lorcia Cooper Khumalo, Ms Kelly Khumalo and Mr Kurt Darren, all influential actors and musicians who have significantly contributed to the South African performing arts industry.
The winning team, residents of Lavender Hill in Cape Town, competed against 32 other performing acts, which were selected from over 6000 entries.
Branden recalls that singing has always been a passion shared with his mother. It is only recently that they took the leap to share their talent with the world. While singing is Branden’s true calling, he admits that the music industry is exceptionally competitive and decided to rather pursue a trade with good employment prospects.
Branden is currently is in his 2nd year studying towards his National Certificate in Electrical Engineering at False Bay TVET College, Westlake Campus.
The competition was demanding on his college schedule, but Brendan is grateful for the support he received from the College, so that he could pursue the once in a lifetime opportunity.
“True to its slogan, My Dream, My College, False Bay TVET College has helped me reach a dream without me having to jeopardise my future.” says Branden.
Since winning the talent competition, Branden and his mom have been invited to sing at quite a number of events, singing alongside amazing artists such as Jarrad Ricketts and Jonathan Rubain. Their family is supporting them fully whether it be with their music career and Branden’s studies.
“We just hope that many more opportunities like this will arise, we have a lot more to offer and we want to share more of our music to everyone who’s supported us since the start of our journey”, says Branden.
