Revitalised recreational spaces for students at all campuses

False Bay College (FBC) celebrated the launch of their newly constructed restaurant at the Westlake campus on 30 September 2014. This inauguration is the forerunner to the rollout of restaurants to the Fish Hoek, Muizenberg and Khayelitsha campuses.

Designed for college students, staff and visitors, these recreational and dining areas offer environments for relaxation, studying or socialising between lectures and are equipped with flat screen TVs and wi fi to maximise the leisure opportunities.

The restaurants will be standardised and rolled out across all the campuses to ensure that students enjoy the same quality experience throughout.

The project was conceived by FBC CEO and Principal Mr Cassie Kruger, and was implemented with the help from a variety of key partners. False Bay College would like to acknowledge and thank:

  • The Western Cape Education Department for funding the project under the direction of Mr Zozo Siyengo and Mrs Danita Welgemoed;
  • Mr Hannes Koen the former Deputy Principal: Corporate Services (retired) who managed the projects, later taken over Charles Goodwin who is the current Deputy Principal;
  • Designers/architects and project managers (Peter Clements and Paula Camp of Edward Clements Architects;
  • The contractors and sub-contractors involved in the project;
  • All professional services (Engineering, QS, Health and Safety etc.);
  • Suppliers of equipment and furniture/shop fitting;
  • AV and camera installation;
  • Catering services (both internal and external);
  • Countless engagements and inputs by key campus personnel (Campus Heads and Administrators);
  • False Bay College Supply Chain Management under the able leadership of Mr Colin Hogg CA (SA): FBC CFO.

The Westlake restaurant has been rebuilt after a fire destroyed the premises in 2013.

According to Charles Goodwin, FBC Deputy Principal: Corporate Services and Campus Restaurant, the project team pulled together to overcome the challenge and built an even better facility than originally planned.
