Automotive Repair and Maintenance NQF LEVEL 2-4
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
The purpose of this qualification is to provide students with the knowledge and skill, to work effectively in the automotive repair and maintenance sector, and to meet the challenges of the automotive industry and related environments.
The primary skill that is recognised in this qualification is the ability to apply the theory behind repair and maintenance to do general servicing of vehicles.
This capability requires an understanding of basic repair and maintenance theory, names and functions of fluids and lubricants, automotive components and how to read and interpret workshop manuals and workshop procedures. Hand skills also play an important role in this qualification and successful students will need to apply hand skills in completing their tasks.
Minimum Admission requirements
- NQF Level 2 qualification: Completion of the General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 1 Preference will be given to students who have completed Grade 12.
- NQF Level 3 qualification: Completion of the National Certificate in Automotive Repair and Maintenance at NQF Level 2.
- NQF Level 4 qualification: Completion of the National Certificate in Automotive Repair and Maintenance at NQF Level 3.
CAREER opportunities
Upon completion of the FETC NQF Level 4 in this qualification, candidates may apply to do a trade test in Automotive Mechanics and may be employed as a qualified Artisan in one of the six specialisation areas to conduct servicing and repairs to:

- 1-year full-time per level
- 6 months at College and 6 months in the workplace
