ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME:

False Bay College is proud to announce the commencement of a one year full time Animation programme, orientated towards traditional 2D Animation. The programme is offered at the Muizenberg Campus. The South African Film Industry has a dire need for quality animators. If you are passionate about drawing and design, cartoons, video games, animated movies and would like to pursue a career in the creative field, this programme is for you.

COURSE CONTENT: SAQA ID 57611

Principles of Animation, Animation Production, Storyboarding, Layout, Life Drawing, and Digital Drawing. You will learn to apply the following software programmes: Flash, After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop.

DURATION: 1 Year Full -Time

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

The Animation programme has entry requirements for acceptance. The minimum academic requirement is a Grade 12 along with a portfolio. The application form and portfolio must be submitted to the Muizenberg campus by the 9th February 2015.

FEES: R30 000. This is approximately R20K less than what is charged by the private sector for a comparative course.

The Portfolio submission should consist of the following:

  • Model sheet: Draw a character of your choice in three positions, from the front, from the side, and doing something i.e. fighting a monster, sitting down, sweeping the yard (Posed).
  • Drawing: Set up a still life by placing 3 to 5 items on a table. Use a pencil to draw a picture of the items on a table.
  • Story Board: Divide a page into six blocks. Using the six pictures illustrate how to cook eggs.
  • Writing: Complete the following story: Walking home from a friend's house, you see an alien ship land. Using less than 500 words, explain what happened next.

All drawings submitted must be on paper, no bigger than A3, and must be clearly marked with your name and submitted with the application form attached.
