1. GETC: ECD Practitioner Assistant NQF Level 1

About this programme:
Prepares students to assist the teacher in preparing activities in an ECD classroom.

Entry Requirements:
Grade 9 certificate and working in an ECD environment.

Career Opportunities:
Work as a classroom assistant, working with babies at an ECD site or as a Day mother.

Programme Content:
This programme covers aspects of the development of children, how to layout and plan creative activities in order to develop children holistically. How to plan and implement relevant activities.

Duration:
18 months, part-time

2. FETC in ECD NQF Level 4

About this programme:
This programme provides students with training to qualify as childcare professionals with children from 0 to 4 years of age while at the same time providing access to further training in this field.

Admission requirements:
Grade 11 or 12 and/or ECD Level 1 and employed in the ECD field.

Career opportunities:
Once you’ve completed the programme, you will be qualified to teach 0 to 4 years of age. Be able to open and manage your own ECD centre, or care for children in ECD facilities.

Duration:
18 months, part-time

Programme Content:
This programme will teach you how to:
• Manage a learning programme
• Facilitate the active learning and healthy development of children from 0 to 4 years of age in early childhood development programmes.

3. Higher Certificate in ECD NQF Level 5

About this programme:
This programme allows ECD Practitioners (e.g. homebased practitioners, family and community ECD motivators, fieldworkers, facilitators, trainers and managers) to provide appropriate education, training and development services in the ECD sub-field. It will also enable ECD practitioners to use their knowledge of child growth and development from birth to six years and knowledge relevant national policies to guide their professional practice in the ECD sub-field.

Entry Requirements:
ECD Level 4 and employed in the ECD field.

Career Opportunities:
Once you’ve completed the programme, you will be qualified to teach in Educare facilities, ECD centres. You will also be able to open and manage your own Educare centre.

Course Content:
The Fundamental Component consists of Unit Standards to the value of 15 credits all of which are compulsory

The Core Component consists of Unit Standards to the value of 72 credits all of which are compulsory

The Elective Component consists of Unit Standards which learners are to choose to the minimum of 33 credits

18 months, part-time
