FBC Empowers School Learners

False Bay College (FBC) hosted Mini College Days at the five campuses during August 2014. The project was aligned with the Department of Higher Education and Training’s National FET Week, which was endorsed by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana.

FBC’s objective was to provide learners with quality interaction and empowerment oriented toward their potential career paths and to offer the motivation for them to see beyond the obstacles as they focus on their dreams, whilst taking the necessary steps to achieve this.

Two schools were invited per event, with a maximum of 13 learners per school, in order to facilitate smaller, intimate groups. At each campus a seminar was hosted according to the specialised course offering of the campus.

Fish Hoek, Mitchell’s Plan and Khayelitsha Campuses hosted Business and Finance Seminars; Westlake Campus offered an Engineering-based Campus Tour; and Muizenberg Campus hosted a Hospitality and Tourism Seminar.
Guest speakers from various industries were in attendance and included Nedbank, Old Mutual and Cape Town Tourism.

Feedback from the students showed how the course helped them shift their focus to the bigger picture for their lives and offered motivation for their futures.
