About this course
This hands-on training course covers the main aspects of catering.

Admission requirements
You qualify for admission if you passed Grade 9 (preferance given to Grade 12) or have previous catering experience.

Our hands-on training prepares you to work in the following sectors of the food industry:

  • Guesthouses
  • Bed-and-breakfasts establishments
  • Hotels
  • Fast food outlets
  • Private catering companies
  • Restaurants

You’ll also be trained to:

  • Service catering contracts
  • Start your own business

In-depth description
Students are instructed in the following:

  • Food preparation and cooking across the full range
  • Knife skills
  • Food service (e.g. how to set tables and serve food)
  • Menu planning, recipes and recipe costing
  • Basic entrepreneurial skills (including marketing and costing)
  • Introductory computer skills (spreadsheets and word processing)
  • Generic essentials such as personal health, hygiene and workplace safety
  • First Aid
